If your thinking of learning how to play golf your in the right place. But before you even think about stepping out on to the golf course there are a few thing you will need to get you started. These include a basic understanding of golf rules/etiquette, basic golf equipment and a great deal of practice. All of which can be picked up given the right amount of time and dedication.
Here we will go through everything you need to know about starting golf and have you addicted to the game before you know it.
1. Learning to Play Golf
Golf is a game that requires a lot of practice and should not be played on the course until you have learned how to play to a standard that will allow your to keep up with play. Until that day it would be wise to invest your time on the driving range and practice green until you feel you are good enough to play for real. If you still don’t feel confident enough to play on the big course it would be a good idea to play on a smaller par 3 or pitch and putt course until you feel you are capable of stepping up to a full 18 hole golf course.
2. Golf Equipment
Before you hit your first golf ball your going to need a set of golf clubs to practice with. I may be a good idea to borrow or even hire a set of golf clubs until you get a feel for the game, and later decide if you would like to invest in a set of your own.

Other things you will need to play a round of golf are:
Golf Balls
Golf Tee’s
Golf Glove
Over time you may wish to invest in more golf equipment but in the meantime the equipment stated above should be more than enough to get you round the golf course.
3. Golf Rules/Etiquette
There are literally hundreds of rules in the game of golf, and learning them all is not something that can be done overnight.
Here is a list of a few of the basic rules that will help you get round the golf course without any trouble.
No more than 14 golf clubs are allowed to be carried in your golf bag
Most golf courses will have a dress code that needs to be followed. Some are more strict than others but it is always a good idea to check before you play.
Remember it is always a possibility that the ball you are playing with may be identical to another players golf ball. Make sure you mark your golf ball before you tee off to identify that it is your own.
Be quiet when other people are playing their golf shot. This includes on the tee, green and every other shot.
It is important to keep up with the pace of the game. Slow play can hold up other players on the golf course. If you find you are struggling to keep up with play it is common courtesy to let players before you play through.
Don’t walk through a players putting line or cast a shadow over there line of sight.
Play the ball as it lies. This means you may not move or touch the ball after it has come to rest in its final position.
Make sure you tee off in the correct area. This means the ball must be placed between the designated markers on the tee and never in front of them.
These are just a few of the basic rules/etiquette of golf. Over time you will find that the more you play the more you will learn and the better your game will become.
Hopefully these simple golf beginner tips will give you a better understanding of what to expect when you start playing golf.
Good Luck!
